Doo Disaster {Lesson Learned}

Yesterday we were at the mall, and we were passing Master Cuts and Michael reminded me that I had mentioned that I would like to get my hair cut. So, I was like "oh yeah!" and decided to go in and get a nice little trim. I was thinking maybe an inch or so off with some layers or something. No big deal. After leaving the mall in tears, feeling as if I had just lost a limb somehow, I would like to share some things I've learned from my experience.

1. Make sure your hair cutter person speaks ENGLISH. (or whatever language you speak will be fine.)

2. If you are trying to explain to her what you want and she has this blank look and just keeps nodding and then says something to the hair cutter lady next to her in spanish...something is wrong.

3. Take a good look at your hair cutter lady's hair. If her hair cut looks bad, chances are she did it herself and yours will look bad, too.

4. When the chunks of hair falling to the floor are definitely LONGER than what you thought they should be (mine were like 6 inches)...instead of trying to convince yourself that she's a hair dresser, she knows what she's doing and it will all turn out okay, STOP HER! Simply tell her that's a little too much!!! Or a lot too much and take the scissors away from her.

5. And when she keeps cutting it shorter on shorter on each side to make one side match the other just tell her it looks fine and book it out of there.

6. When she is finally done making both sides even and asks "you like?" and you absolutely can't believe that that is actually your head with that horrible hair doo, it's okay to burst into tears. In my case, I didn't say anything because I was just trying not to throw up, wrote her a check as fast as I could and turned and ran out in tears.

7. If you see someone with the beautiful haircut that you thought you were supposed to get, instead of bursting into tears again and wanting to beat her up, just turn and look the other way. Yours will grow out again....though it may be years....like....three or four years.....it will grow back. (sigh)

If I could find the darn USB cable for my camera I'd put up a lovely picture of my new much shorter and really freaky hair cut for you.

10 people leaving some love!:

OH MY GOODNESS! I can't even believe that! I am SOOOO SORRY! I can't believe that you paid for it. I have Tyler cut my hair for that very reason. (Of course I know how to cut hair so I can make sure he does it right) Are you going to get it fixed? You have to post or email a picture.

If my friend was still in town we could have driven down there to have her fix your hair. She is amazing.
Personally I love short hair & with your cheek bones an a-line would look hot on you.
I can't wait for the reunion!!

I had a bad mall hair salon story too. I was going back to CA to visit my mission and we stopped at a mall salon on the way. The hair guy had coke bottom glasses and reeked of smoke and was about 75 years old. I told him what I wanted and thing were going well until he ran a the #2 guard over the top of my head! I ended up with a very uneven buzz cut. I could have done better myself with left handed kindergarten scissors. Anyway the lesson is don't get a haircut from someone unless you have 3-5 solid referrals.

Natalie, I'm sorry to hear about your hair. I have had that exact experience except it was with highlights. You would be gorgeous bald, so don't fret, I'm sure you still look amazing and like you said, it will grow! Love reading your blog.

Oh, you poor thing! That must have been a very depressing day. We all still love you, bad haircut and all.

Maybe Monica can help fix it when you're all here next month. I have hair scissors you can borrow.

I'm so sorry. The same thing happened to me right before t.j. surgery i swear you have to be so careful when you are stressed for time to get your hair cut. Something bad always happens. Doesn't make you so mad that you feel like you still have to pay when they do something like that to you!!!!! AhHHHHHHHH!!!

Yes, an a-line cut is what Victoria Bekham has.
I have a reeeally short one right now, like Sienna Miller but with lots of red highlights instead of blond.

I agree- you couldn't look bad if you tried! Doesn't matter what your hair looks like- you're still absolutely beauteous!!
Lame that you had to go through that, though. Sorry. :(

I'm sure you look great as always! But I know what you mean about bad haircuts. Even when I take a picture with me they just don't seem to get it. Before we moved to CO the girl gave me bangs! I was so upset there were no bangs in the picture! Good news is that hair grows. Can't wait to see the picture!
