{Pin}spired Copycat Week 7 = BATHROOM REVEAL!

This week's {Pin}spiration has been a work in progress for a while. It's actually a few pins mashed together into one big beautiful masterpiece!

It all started out with THIS pin. Oooh, the colors were love at first sight. I wanted something bright and happy for our master bathroom. Aqua. *drool*

Because when we moved in, our bathroom looked like this.

I get depressed and grumpy just from looking at it. Dark...old lady...forest green...UGH!!!

I saw THIS pin and knew that those were the colors I wanted. Teal, aqua and a bright cheery yellow!

SO, with the help of Glidden Paint with primer in shade Almost Aqua WGG27, I attacked the room with paint and great joy. And right away it looked SOOO much better! (The light in the bathroom made the colors all wonky in the pictures...the paint sample pictures are the actual colors!!!)

The stenciled part of the wall is Glidden Bermuda Bay WGB02

I didn't know what to do for wall decor. I knew I wanted something shabby chic...but what? So, back to Pinterest I went, and saw THIS pin of a cool shelf thing.

Oooh. I had seen something JUST like this at the local thrift store and contemplated buying it, but didn't. *smacking forehead* I rushed back to the thrift store and bought it....$7. It was spray painted gold, so I showed it who was boss and spray painted it white. I totally won.

I also found some random things at the thrift store and spray painted them Krylon Blue Ocean Breeze and Krylon Bauhaus Gold. Oh, and the vintage sconce things hanging on the stenciled wall? Thrift store, too! Spray painted them white with the same spray paint as the shelf thing. The butterflies are the same Bauhaus Gold.

And, that about covers it for now. I'll be adding more things, I'm sure. But for now, I'm content enough! SOOOO much better, don't you think? It's amazing what a little paint and imagination (and by that I mean Pinterest) can do!

Rest In Peace, Sweet Stephen Chao Peterson

I have been sitting here trying to get my fingers to type something, but I can't even muster the words to say. I knew this day was coming, but even preparing myself for "the post" didn't soften the blow, or my heart stopping as I read the first line of the post, or the tears from overflowing. I can barely see the screen through my tears and am cursing myself for not wearing waterproof mascara today. The world will never be the same without that little boy. Rest in peace, sweet little Stephen. I love you with all my heart!
Stephen Chao Peterson
Our dear son, Stephen Chao Peterson passed into our Lord and Savior's arms this morning at 11:01am.

It happened shortly after he communicated (by blinking) to Amber and me that he wanted the kids to come to him.

We each told him we loved him, sang "Families Can be Together Forever", and said a family prayer.  Then we each told him how much we loved him again and that it was ok to go.  We didn't tell him goodbye, but that we would see him later.

Sabin struggled to say anything at first, but finally she mustered all of her voice and told him the same and that she would do everything she could to be with him again.  She also reassured him she would be ok.

Just as soon as he heard Sabin's words, his eyes opened wide and looked upwards while taking his last few breaths.  Then he suddenly went from us as we all held his body in our arms.

WE LOVE YOU STEPHEN!

SEE YOU LATER...
Stephen: "I love you infinity, infLinity, and infLinity is more than infinity, Daddy."

Thank you to ALL OF YOU who followed in this journey with us. Your kind words, letters, packages, and prayers meant more to the family than you will ever know!

Here is the song the family sang at Stephen's bedside as he spent his last moments here on earth. Through God's goodness, FAMILIES CAN BE TOGETHER FOREVER. :)  *I need another Kleenex.*

Rest In Peace, Stephen Chao Peterson.

Prepping 101

Lately, I have really been thinking about the future. It worries me. I look at my little kids and think about what lies ahead for them. The things they will go through, the things they will see. The scriptures tell us that it won't be easy. While we were in Houston for Spring Break, I was flipping channels at the hotel and came across a TV show...something about "Doomsday Preppers". It really intrigued me! I mean, these people were majorly extreme...we're talking underground bunkers with flame throwers to kill zombies here. But they had some good points. What if there really was some sort of a collapse? It could be any kind, something like the loss of a spouse or a job, to some sort of an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) which would disrupt all of our electronics and really put a damper on things, all the way up to some sort of a global collapse. Are we prepared???

As a member of the LDS church, I have been taught to prepare for the future and become as self reliant as we can. A popular saying is "It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark." Seeing the way things are turning in the world have put me almost into a panic mode. Will I be able to care and provide for my family? I just saw on the news that the Spokesperson for Walmart has just said that prices are going to raise dramatically. CRAP! I have been working on building up our food storage, but there is still a lot we can improve on.
I found this clip on Youtube, by Glenn Beck. Now...Glen Beck is someone you either love or hate. There doesn't seem to be much of a middle ground. However, whether you love him or hate him, this segment really stopped me in my tracks. I really feel it was inspired, and that we all need to listen to it, write it down and begin to practice it. This is his "advice" to prepare for a collapse. I have written it down and will use it as a checklist for my family to start practicing. Just a few to intrigue you:

- Grow your own food
-Try to learn to be as electronic free as you can (this is big...so much of our lives now revolve around the internet, our cell phones, our ipads, eBooks, etc. I know I just about lose my mind if the internet is down for ONE day!!!)
- Educate yourself at all times.
- Don't look for labels, they will be meaningless.
- Learn older lost practices: mending, canning, farming, learn how to fix an engine
- Teach your children work ethic.
- Be honorable in ALL of your dealings.
- Learn to do with less NOW. Teach your children to do with less NOW. (It won't be as big of a shock to them in the future)

These are just a few! Really...just excellent advice! It's a great first step to becoming prepared. I promise you'll be hearing a lot more from me on "prepping". I will go over 72 hour kits, Emergency Backpacks (I call them Bug Out Bags), food storage and self reliance. Do you have anything in particular you want to know about? Shoot me a comment and I'll get back to you!

{Pin}spired Copycat Week 6

Okay, so this is actually yesterday's post...I'm a little behind! I was GOING to post this yesterday but a big thunderstorm came through and knocked out the power! So...*cough cough*, anyway. I am really excited about my latest {Pin}spiration!

I'm sure you ALLLL know about the awesome Cutting Edge stencils. I've been seeing posts about them everywhere! I have been drooling over these for MONTHS! I wanted to do some sort of a pattern on my bathroom wall...but just couldn't bring myself to pay $40 for a stencil I'd only use once on a tiny little accent wall. For a great big room I would have made the splurge...but this is all I needed it for!

I love how it turned out!!! Not too different from the one I was drooling over, either.

This is the one I wanted to get, found HERE.

So, how did I do this without a stencil then? Well, I'll tell you. Once upon a time, (which actually happens EVERY day...) while browsing through Pinterest, I saw THIS pin.

This amazing woman from Jones Design Company had done her ENTIRE bedroom without the expensive stencil! She even has the FREE TEMPLATE that I used to print out and cut and trace.

I was really surprised at how fast it went! I got it all done in about 3 hours! And basically for free since I already had my paints bought. And we all lived happily ever after with a cute hand-stenciled bathroom!

(I'll do a whole post on my master bathroom makeover soon!)
